Legal Separation

A legal separation (also known as a "divorce from bed and board") addresses the issues of child custody, visitation, child support, and alimony payments on a temporary basis. The parties remain legally married, and assets and debts accumulated during this time are still considered "marital".

A legal separation is designed for couples who acknowledges that there are problems in the marriage which may still be resolved and gives the couple time to decide whether or not to stay married or to proceed with an absolute divorce.
